Design is very much a part of me and what I do. I have been creating and working with clients for over 20 years, carefully listening to briefs and providing successful solutions. I take a lot of pride in what I deliver and hope that it shows in what is produced.

I started my working life in Graphics, moving into Product Design, Art Direction and Exhibition Graphics. All of that design background was fundamental in my decision to change career to Garden Design.
I have always had a deep appreciation for what I like to call the 'Outdoor Room', because for me a garden should feel connected to the home. It's a space that can behave according to the wants and needs of the property owner.

I retrained at 'The Garden Design School' in the historic grounds of Painshill Park - Surrey. The School is run by Internationally-known and practicing garden designer Robin Templar Williams.

Achieving a distinction, I went on to set up my Garden Design business in 2010 and have not looked back since. I now practice in the heart of Somerset, along side the wonderful Mendips, currently producing designs for clients in Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and in my own South West region covering areas like Chew Valley, Chipping Sodbury, Bristol, Clevedon, Cheddar and many more.

What my clients have to say....

La Rochelle - France

"Phil is a truly talented designer – helping us turn a few sheets of scribbles, lots of photographs and inexperienced rambles into a vision for an entirely new garden which perfectly reflects our ambition. Unlike many projects where hours are spent on the property, our requirement was for a guide to help us create a typically French garden for an old farmhouse we have been renovating in south west France. Unoccupied for over ten years, the absence of care  took more than its toll on the garden – leaving it unkempt and uncared for.  With a virtual ‘blank sheet’ – mostly comprising thistles, stinging nettles, assorted weeds and grasses, Phil has not just interpreted our vision but created a design which the local villagers are absolutely thrilled by!  Thoroughly researching the local area, Phil has not only combined his vast knowledge of hard and soft landscaping with a truly local flavour but has provided us with clear guidance and an ‘always there’ helping hand to ensure that the vision becomes a reality.  After 4 years of hard labour on the house, tackling the garden now seems like a breeze."

"I am just writing to say how pleased my wife and  I are with the superb garden that you have helped to create, we are both over the moon! My neighbour is also in awe and is now going to do something with her garden! I hope you are pleased as well with the result. Ian and his team were just fantastic and thank you so much for recommending them, they were faultless!"

“We were impressed by the friendly service offered by Phil. Right from the outset he listened to our requirements and produced a concept that answered the brief. It was a particularly challenging garden because of the steepness of the site but we are very pleased with the results and can’t wait to see the garden finished and planted up. In addition Phil offers an excellent value for money service which includes a structural plan, planting plan and a scope of works. We were amazed by the beautiful hand drawn plans he produced throughout the process and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.”

“Jill and I wish to put on record our immense gratitude to you for the amazing, wonderful and sensitive work you have put into guiding the creation of a garden beyond our wildest dreams.

The careful, consultative approach you have taken right from the start has smoothed the whole process, and it has been a joy.

Your easy and friendly yet professional manner made the whole process easier than we thought would be possible. Thankfully, you and Johnny (our ‘constructor') immediately understood each other and the trust we all quickly developed was key to successful completion.”
